Epsilon Communications
Epsilon Communications is an independent communications consultancy, helping clients achieve their corporate and commercial objectives, and maximise their corporate reputation.
We specialise in transport, travel and infrastructure (rail, bus, maritime, local and active transport), education and business services sectors, but we have also worked for leading companies in pharmaceuticals, financial and professional services.
Headed up by Edward Funnell, a well-connected and highly-skilled communications professional with long experience of designing and delivering successful communications programmes across many sectors – our professional and conscientious approach delivers positive results for client projects and programmes on time and on budget.
We are based in Battersea, close to the heart of London – but through our team of associates – we can provide a national and international service covering not only communications and public affairs but also design, digital marketing, and commercial support in the UK and across Europe.

Who we are

Edward Funnell
Managing Director
Edward is a highly-experienced corporate and public affairs communications professional specialising in media and communications strategy and government relations for clients across the UK and internationally. He has 30 years’ experience working at leading PR consultancies including Edelman, Ludgate and Rowland and working in sectors including transport and travel, financial and professional services, pharmaceuticals and education.
He was Director of Communications of the Rail Delivery Group for nearly seven years, and has also held senior communications and advisory roles at Abellio, Arriva, Keolis, Stagecoach Rail Group, Department for Transport, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Merial Pharmaceuticals, Network Rail, and Virgin Atlantic Airways. Most recently, he was Head of Communications for Eltham College, a large independent school in London.
As well as proven skills in strategic communications planning (including corporate positioning/messaging/target audiences), Edward is an expert in stakeholder engagement and partnerships, national and local media relations, issues management, public affairs and internal communications. He is an experienced media spokesman and helps clients manage both positive communications opportunities as well as handling contentious issues and reputational crises.
Edward has also supported numerous rail franchise bids around the UK, and helped mobilise five new franchises – each delivering millions of pounds of investment into improved rail services for the communities they serve.
He has a BA in Politics and International Relations from Newcastle University and an MA from the University of Durham.

Jenny Funnell
Director
Jenny has a wealth of experience gained in the education and healthcare sectors. She began her career working for a pharmaceutical company before working in leading healthcare PR and communications agencies for nearly a decade, including Edelman, Grayling and Citigate Group.
After freelancing and then taking a career break, she became an early years teacher in nursery and pre-prep schools in London and, for nearly 10 years, has been an educational recruitment consultant taking part in searches for heads and deputy head teachers in leading independent and state schools.
Jenny has a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Kent and a teaching diploma.
